sheets – lines attached to the sails, used to pull them in or let them out
sheet in- pull the sail in
sheet out- let the sail out
tiller – used to steer, turns the rudder
rudder – steers boat
port – left side while facing bow of boat
starboard – right side while facing bow of boat
These are only a few of the sailing terms, what are some others? Why do you need to know them?
I believe it is important to know all of the vocabulary words above; so that if you’re being tested by your instructor you will be able to answer the question correctly giving the right answer. Some words are instruction that for example tell you to pull the sail in or let it out, also some of the sail parts are included too.
